Have you been wondering what has been going on with the Unique Device Identification program that the FDA is in the process of introducing? You are not alone, there has been very little news on the program and many in the Auto ID industry have been thinking that the idea is being dropped.

There is a small sign that things are going on behind the scenes however, the FDA is hosting a public workshop called “Unique Device Identification (UDI) for
Postmarket Surveillance and Compliance Public Workshop”

This is being held on September 12 and 13th in Bethesda, MD and will also be Webcast live.

What is really interesting is that the event website states:
“This public workshop is NOT going to discuss the UDI proposed rule or regulatory framework for UDI.”

Clearly the FDA UID rule is going to remain a closely guarded state secret for some time to come – maybe those that say the unique part of UID has been dropped are correct.

Anyway, if you want to take part in this workshop, either at the location or online, you can sign up here - if you go to the actual event, you can get a packed lunch for $15 as well!

Do you work in the medical device business? What steps (if any) has your company taken to get ready for the UDI marking rules?

Do you have to comply with the MIL-STD-129 labeling rules? Looking for a way to get into compliance quickly and easily?

Quite often we are asked to put together a proposal for an RFID labeling solution for our DoD contractor customers. One that’s easy to get started (as often there is a deadline involved) and one that will work without disruption to the current work flow.

We have installed a lot of these over the years and have a really good feel for what combination of components make up a solution that is reliable to use at a competitive price point.

As a result, we are pleased to offer the Winco ID RFID Compliance Kit bundled at a special price.

Here’s what is included:

Datamax M-4308 RFID label printer/encoder

On-site service plan to keep everything running nicely

Bartender RFID Enterprise label software

Winco’s DoD label templates

Tharo PR100 RFID Reader

RFID thermal transfer labels

Thermal transfer ribbons

On-site training to get you up and labeling fast (training on-line outside of our service area)

What I really like about this bundled kit is that I’d buy exactly the same if I was installing a new system for my own use. I know everything works well and it is easy for us to support. Our label formats enable the printing of all the labels from Unit to MSL.

Struggling with MIL-STD-129? Here’s the solution!

Search Labeling News for more articles on complying with MIL-STD-129, MIL-STD-130 including WAWF and how to manage the associated data.
